Hufflepuff

I am so honored to be a Sugar Angel for Icing Smiles and to have made this cake for a sweet girl’s birthday. She loves the Hufflepuff house and requested Harry Potter for her theme!

Both tiers are white cakes with raspberry filling. The wand, sorting hat and monster book’s mouth and tongue were made from modeling chocolate. Most everything else is fondant, even the baseboard. I hand painted everything and also made chocolate frogs and purple macarons to surround the cake, along with jellybeans. Such a fun cake!

Notes from the Kitchen

This baseboard alone took a couple hours. I colored fondant to grey, rolled it out and placed on the wood circle. I worked quickly to press in a cobble stone mold before the fondant set.

Once the stones were pressed in, I took a lot of time and care to paint the creases with petal dust in a few colors.

I sculpted a little sorting hat out of modeling chocolate. I thought he turned out so cute!

I molded the wand from modeling chocolate and used different colors of petal dust for an aged look with character.

Painting more petal dust on accents around the cake. I wish I had more pictures as the monster tier came together, but I was working so fast!

The easiest way to add a golden snitch! I bought these little paper wings from Etsy and added them to ferrero rocher chocolates.

Milah gave me this card when we met and she saw her cake. This is why I spend so much energy on these cakes — to bring joy to kiddos who have endured so much. Love!
