A pizza themed cake for my son’s 13th birthday! Such fun to make this one… He only likes cheese pizza, but it was much more fun to add toppings. Sorry, buddy! LOL. I used my culinary torch and got the ‘cheese’ perfect!
I made a few toppings out of fondant and set them aside overnight to set.
Once set, I painted and airbrushed the little morsels to look more realistic!
I piped a ring of buttercream around the first layer to hold in the strawberry bc filling.
I plopped on more of one of my son’s favorite things… strawberry jelly!
Placed the second layer on top of the filling.
Applied a crumbcoat of butter cream to the whole cake to fill in gaps.
Added a ring of fondant on top, which will help to define the crust.
Covered the cake with a single piece of fondant.
Airbrushed a delicious looking crust! I used several colors to give it dimension.
I then added my ‘tomato sauce’ buttercream. It’s vanilla bc, colored red, but I mixed in finely-crushed oreos to yield the little flecks of black seen in actual tomato sauce.
White bc for the cheese. I tried something new… after this photo, I took my culinary torch to the cheese which softened and melted the buttercream so nicely to look like actual melted cheese!
I then added my toppings and ‘happy birthday’ writing. Order up!
